P. Keith Thompson moved from Huntsville in 2007 to join Florence
graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a B.S.
in Civil Engineering. After serving 8 years in the Army, as a
paratrooper and helicopter test pilot, he resigned his commission to
attend medical school in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. He
graduated from medical school at the University of Arkansas, where
he developed an interest in ophthalmology while studying about
cataracts and infections of the eye. For a short time he worked for
the Arkansas Eye Bank harvesting human corneas for transplant.
Dr. Thompson completed a general surgery internship at the University of Arkansas and a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. While in Galveston, he was instrumental in the development of a cataract surgery training lab.
Dr. Thompson has been practicing general ophthalmology in Alabama since 2005 and was Board Certified in 2007. He became a partner in Florence Ophthalmology in 2009. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Thompson attends Highland Baptist Church and is a member of Florence American Legion Post #11. He married his high school sweetheart in 1989 and has two teenage daughters. He plays saxophone in the Just Jazzin’ Big Band and plays oboe in the Shoals Concert Band. He spends his free time with his family, tinkering and drag racing.
